Before and after a flood in Lake Havasu

You don’t think of the desert as getting many floods, but there are plenty of floods that cause floodwater damage. Lake Havasu, AZ for instance, has its fair share of floods.
Do you what to do or how to prepare for before and after a flood?
This 2 part series will focus on how to prepare for and what to do during and after a flood.
Part 1, To Be Prepared, means to:
• Know your flood evacuation routes and location of emergency shelters and what the flood warning signals are.
• What is your flood risk elevation? Is your homes location in a flood plain?
• Keep your vehicle fueled up and and ready to go with emergency supplies.• Keep medicines and first aid supplies on hand.
• Have some canned or dried foods on hand that don’t require cooking or refrigeration.
• Have a portable radio on hand as well as flashlight, and emergency cooking equipment.
• Check with your insurance agent to make sure you have flood coverage on your homeowner’s policy.
• When you receive a flood warning, store clean drinking water. You can fill your bathtub for doing dishes, bathing or flushing toilets.
• Move important things to a safe location on higher ground if time permits.
• Do you know where your main power supply is located? If so, turn off the electrical units and then shut off the utilities at the main switch.
Flooding and water damage does happen in Lake Havasu, AZ. Be smart and prepared so you don’t suffer any injuries and always pay attention to the warnings coming your way.
